Sometimes I'm blown away by the intense amounts of personal information that people put in their blogs. I don't see myself as a super secretive person, but the idea of publishing intimate details of my life for all to see makes me a little uneasy. For the most part, I think I know who reads my blog on a regular basis, and those people are my close friends and family whom I write this blog for. On the other hand, I know there are also people who I don't know very well or perhaps at all who read my blog. I know that there is no real harm in sharing personal experiences and observations to potential strangers... it's not like I'm sharing my birthday and social security number on my blog.
Anyways, the purpose of a blog is to publish your thoughts on the internet. I know, I know. Dictionary.com defines a blog as "an online diary (a daily record, usually private, esp. of the writer's own experiences, observations, feelings, attitudes, etc); a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page."
Hmm... I did sign up for this with the intention of writing about what's going on in my life. I have a blog so my friends and family can keep tabs on me when I'm bad about making phone calls and writing emails. I just need to accept the fact that some people will read my blog not because they really care about what is going on in my life, but more because they are bored/snooping/need juicy gossip to keep them afloat. Let's be honest, the whole reason I started thinking about this whole thing is because I've started to find myself bored at work and reading the blogs of people that I barely know. Oh well. You win some and you lose some.
