House Issues

I'm sitting here writing this blog from the SPU Guest House... I never thought I'd be here. It feels almost like vacation, a mid-priced hotel room with basic amenities and a kitchen. But instead, we're here because our sewer has a massive problem, and SPU has kindly relocated us until they can figure out what is going out.

The last couple weeks our basement has been flooding every time we use any water. Especially in the mornings after showers or when we do laundry, there has been a good inch of water covering our basement floor. We finally realized that it was a clogged drain, and called maintenance to come check things out. They couldn't get into the sewage pipes to see the problem, so they called in an outside company to run a camera down the pipes to diagnose if the sewer had just collapsed or was clogged. Whatever the problem is, they couldn't even get the camera down the pipes. So we have to wait until Monday to figure out what is going on. If it is a collapsed sewer, we might have to move this week. Which is unfortunately the week before finals... if we do have to move, I hope my professors will be understanding and give me an extension on the papers I have due.

This morning we went and looked at a few apartments, so given we have to move on Tuesday, we'll already have some options for where we will go. SPU also has several other houses we could move in to, but at this point, it seems worthless to move to another campus house when we'll just have to move out again when I graduate in 4 months.

We're praying that our sewer is repairable and can be fixed easily, but for a 100 year old house, I'm not getting my hopes up.
